Cellulite on your legs: what helps and what doesn't

ryng labs · updated 21 September 2026

Short answer

Cellulite on the legs is extremely common and mostly structural, so no single fix removes it. Building muscle, regular massage and patience with creams can change how it looks. Clinic treatments go further, at a much higher cost.

Why does cellulite show up on the legs?

Bands of connective tissue tie the skin to the muscle underneath. Where those bands pull tight and fat pushes up between them, the surface dimples. The thighs, stomach and buttocks are where this shows most. Cleveland Clinic puts it at 80 to 90 percent of women after puberty and fewer than 10 percent of men, with genetics, age, body fat and skin thickness all playing a part.

Does losing weight get rid of it?

Not completely. Weight gain makes it more visible, but lean people have it too, because the connective tissue that causes the dimpling is still there.

What actually changes how it looks?

Option What to expect
Strength and cardio training Firmer muscle under the skin can improve the look over months
Massage, by hand or with a device A smoother look for a while after each session; no evidence of a lasting change
Creams with caffeine or retinol Six months or more of daily use before anything shows
Dry brushing Softer skin and a temporary effect on the look
Clinic treatments (subcision, laser, radiofrequency) The biggest changes, at clinic prices

Is massage worth it for cellulite?

If you want your legs to look smoother before a beach day or an event, yes, as long as you know it is temporary. The value is in the routine: a few minutes, a few times a week. A knobbed massager like the ryng contour V3 with an anti-cellulite oil is built for exactly that.

What is a simple routine for the legs?

  1. After a shower, apply a thin layer of oil to the thighs and the backs of the legs.
  2. Massage in slow circles for three to four minutes per leg.
  3. Do it three or four times a week.
  4. Add two or three strength sessions a week for the legs and glutes.
  5. Take photos in the same light once a month to see what is changing.

What doesn't help?

Detox teas, cellulite-burning supplements and anything promising permanent removal in weeks. The structure causing the dimples does not respond to any of them.
